Hamsters are cute pets which like to chew a variety of things especially cloth items. Unlike dogs and cats these four legged friends can’t roam freely throughout your home. This is a good gift for women who prefer to have cute pets inside their room. Therefore hamster cages are a necessity when owning this adorable pet. They come in many varieties and shapes with many features that are geared towards your furry little friend.

The most recognizable type is rectangular. Because of their shape these hamster cages are easily put into any corner of a room and are not in the way. When you are home you can take the hamster out and play around with it but when you are gone it is a good thing to make certain the hamster is back where it belongs in the security of its cage.

If the hamster gets out they can be preyed upon by animals. Many neighborhoods have cats and cats can be harmful to hamsters and must be protected from them. Therefore it is important when cats are around that hamster cages protect your pet from being harmed.

Hamsters, like every mammal, need water daily and this is supplied through a water bottle system. The hamster cages that are made of wire usually have a separate wire included to attach the bottle onto. There is a little ball at the end of the nozzle so the water is not free flowing but comes out whenever the hamster wants to take a drink.

Little bowls, which can be purchased especially for feeding, can also be put in hamster cages so the animal can eat. Hamster food comes in several different varieties.

Exercise is essential for the hamster so it’s a good idea to purchase a small wheel that fits inside hamster cages. This will ensure that the hamster gets some exercise while being in an enclosed area. Many hamster cages also have plastic tubes which go through and around the cage for the hamster to roam around their home.

Cleaning is essential for both the health of your furry little friend and for your own comfort so cleaning hamster cages is necessary. On the bottom of the cage you can put newspaper and then the wood chips which make for easy cleaning as you just lift the paper and the wood chips out and then replace them until the next cleaning.

For a family living in a space that restricts having animals, a hamster is a good choice. If you have children they will learn the basics of taking care of a pet while at the same time enjoying playing with it and watching it.
